RESUMO

Background: Maternal education is one of key factors affecting nurturing environment which significantly impacts children's height levels throughout their developmental stages. However, the influence of maternal education on children's height is less studied. This study aims to investigate the dynamic influence of maternal education on children's height among Chinese children aged 0-18 years. Methods: Children undergoing health examinations from January 2021 to September 2023 were included in this study. Clinical information including height, weight, maternal pregnancy history, blood specimens for bone metabolism-related indicators and maternal education level was collected. Children's height was categorized into 14 groups based on age and gender percentiles, following WHO 2006 growth standards. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), linear regression, chi-square test and Fisher's exact test were applied for data analysis. Results: A total of 6269 samples were collected, including 3654 males and 2615 females, with an average age of 8.38 (3.97) for males and 7.89 (3.55) for females. Significant correlations between maternal education level, birth weight, birth order, weight percentile, vitamin D, serum phosphorus, alkaline phosphatase levels, and children's height were identified. Birth weight's influence on height varied across age groups. Compared with normal birth weight children, low birth weight children exhibited catch-up growth within the first 6 years and a subsequent gradual widening of the height gap from 6 to 18 years old. Remarkably, the impact of maternal education on height became more pronounced among children above 3-6 years old, which can mitigate the effect of low birth weight on height. Conclusion: We found that weight percentile, birth weight, birth order, bone marker levels, and maternal education level have significant effect on height. Maternal education attenuates the impact of low birth weight on height. The findings indicated that maternal education plays a consistent and critical role in promoting robust and healthy growth.

RESUMO

Taking the green financial ecosystem composed of innovators, green financial institutions and regulators as the object of research, it explores the issue of how to improve the level of efforts of the three types of subjects and the benefits of risk management in the green financial ecosystem. The optimal level of effort, optimal level of return, and optimal level of return on risk management of green financial ecosystems for innovators, green financial institutions, and regulators under the three modes of No-incentive Contract, Cost-sharing Contract, and Synergistic Cooperation Contract are investigated and analyzed respectively, and verified by numerical simulation analysis. The results show: (1) Compared to the No-incentive Contract, the Cost-sharing Contract and the Synergy Cooperation Contract generate more significant incentives, and returns increase over time in both models. (2) The effort level of the participating subjects under the Synergistic Cooperation Contract is the highest, which can realize the Pareto optimization of the participating subjects and the green financial ecosystem at the same time. The study's findings contribute to a deeper understanding of cooperation among innovators, green financial institutions and regulators in facilitating risk management in green financial ecosystems and provide a realistic reference for risk managers in green financial ecosystems.

RESUMO

The nucleus of Darkschewitsch (ND), mainly composed of GABAergic neurons, is widely recognized as a component of the eye-movement controlling system. However, the functional contribution of ND GABAergic neurons (NDGABA) in animal behavior is largely unknown. Here, we show that NDGABA neurons were selectively activated by different types of fear stimuli, such as predator odor and foot shock. Optogenetic and chemogenetic manipulations revealed that NDGABA neurons mediate freezing behavior. Moreover, using circuit-based optogenetic and neuroanatomical tracing methods, we identified an excitatory pathway from the lateral periaqueductal gray (lPAG) to the ND that induces freezing by exciting ND inhibitory outputs to the motor-related gigantocellular reticular nucleus, ventral part (GiV). Together, these findings indicate the NDGABA population as a novel hub for controlling defensive response by relaying fearful information from the lPAG to GiV, a mechanism critical for understanding how the freezing behavior is encoded in the mammalian brain.

RESUMO

Lithium disilicate (Li2 Si2 O5 ) glass-ceramics are currently a more widely used all-ceramic restorative material due to their good mechanical properties and excellent aesthetic properties. However, they have a series of problems such as high brittleness and low fracture toughness, which has become the main bottleneck restricting its development. Therefore, in order to compensate for these shortcomings, we propose to prepare a reinforced glass-ceramics with better mechanical properties and to test the biosafety and chemical solubility of the material. Li2 Si2 O5 whiskers were synthesized by a one-step hydrothermal method, and multi-scale crystal-enhanced Li2 Si2 O5 glass-ceramics were prepared by reaction sintering. The biosafety of multi-scale crystal-reinforced Li2 Si2 O5 glass-ceramics was investigated by in vitro cytotoxicity test, rabbit pyrogen test, mice bone marrow micronucleus test, skin sensitization test, sub-chronic systemic toxicity test, and chronic systemic toxicity test. Additionally, the chemical solubility of multi-scale crystal-reinforced Li2 Si2 O5 glass-ceramics was investigated. The test results showed that the material was non-cytotoxic, non-thermogenic, non-mutagenic, non-sensitizing, and non-systemic. The chemical solubility, determined to be 377 ± 245 µg/cm2 , complied with the ISO 6872 standard for the maximum solubility of ceramic materials. Multi-scale crystal-reinforced Li2 Si2 O5 glass-ceramics' biosafety and chemical solubility met current normative criteria, and they can move on to mechanical property measurements (such as flexural strength test, fatigue life test, friction and wear property study, etc.) and bonding property optimization, which shows promise for future clinical applications.

RESUMO

Paediatric Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (MPP) is a heterogeneous disease with a diverse spectrum of clinical phenotypes. No studies have demonstrated the relationship between underlying endotypes and clinical phenotypes as well as prognosis about this disease. Thus, we conducted a multicentre prospective longitudinal study on children hospitalized for MPP between June 2021 and March 2023, with the end of follow-up in August 2023. Blood samples were collected and processed at multiple time points. Multiplex cytokine assay was performed to characterize serum cytokine profiles and their dynamic changes after admission. Cluster analysis based on different clinical phenotypes was conducted. Among the included 196 patients, the levels of serum IL-17A and IL-6 showed remarkable variabilities. Four cytokine clusters based on the two cytokines and four clinical groups were identified. Significant elevation of IL-17A mainly correlated with diffuse bronchiolitis and lobar lesion by airway mucus hypersecretions, while that of IL-6 was largely associated with lobar lesion which later developed into lung necrosis. Besides, glucocorticoid therapy failed to inhibit IL-17A, and markedly elevated IL-17A and IL-6 levels may correlate with lower airway obliterans. Our study provides critical relationship between molecular signatures (endotypes) and clustered clinical phenotypes in paediatric patients with MPP.

RESUMO

Soil erosion leads to soil degradation and depletion of land resources, posing a significant threat to industrial production and ecological sustainability. In high-altitude regions, rill erosion is the main form of soil erosion in mining areas, however, our understanding of morphology and developmental characteristics of rills and the mechanisms influencing them remains limited. In this study, data were collected from 96 rill plots across two gold mines in the eastern Tibetan Plateau according to vegetation restoration modes (natural restoration (CK) and planted with Elymus dahuricus (ED), Medicago sativa (MS), and multi-plant mixed (Avena fatua L. + Elymus dahuricus + Medicago sativa + Oxytropis coerulea, MM)) and restoration periods (1 year, 3 years, 4 years, and 6 years). We investigated the variations of 7 indicators that can reveal rill morphological and developmental characteristics across different restoration modes and restoration periods, and utilized a partial least squares structural equation model (PLS-SEM) to analyze the effects of 15 indicators from topography, soil, and vegetation on rill erosion modulus (REM). The results indicated that artificial vegetation restoration effectively restrained rill development, notably by decreasing the frequency of wider (>15 cm) and deeper (>10 cm) rills when compared to CK plots. Planting MM and ED exhibited greater efficacy in controlling rill erosion than planting MS. However, the effectiveness of planting ED in controlling rill erosion gradually weakened with time, while MM consistently maintained a strong inhibitory effect. Topographic features, soil texture, and vegetation significantly influenced the REM through direct or indirect effects. Plant root functional traits were the main driving factors in reducing REM, affecting not only REM directly but also influencing vegetation-induced soil properties to indirectly effect REM.

RESUMO

Oral and maxillofacial diseases are one of the most prevalent diseases in the world, which not only seriously affect the health of patients' oral and maxillofacial tissues, but also bring serious economic and psychological burdens to patients. Therefore, oral and maxillofacial diseases require effective treatment. Traditional treatments have limited effects. In recent years, nature exosomes have attracted increasing attention due to their ability to diagnose and treat diseases. However, the application of nature exosomes is limited due to low yield, high impurities, lack of targeting, and high cost. Engineered exosomes can be endowed with better comprehensive therapeutic properties by modifying exosomes of parent cells or directly modifying exosomes, and biomaterial loading exosomes. Compared with natural exosomes, these engineered exosomes can achieve more effective diagnosis and treatment of oral and maxillary system diseases, and provide reference and guidance for clinical application. This paper reviews the engineering modification methods of exosomes and the application of engineered exosomes in oral and maxillofacial diseases and looks forward to future research directions.

RESUMO

There is an urgent need for antimicrobial films based on sustainable resources and production methods. In this study, we present a bio-based nanocomposite film composed of chitosan (∼60 wt %), lignin nanoparticles (LNPs, ∼40 wt %), a small amount of glutaraldehyde (1.5 wt %), and a trace level of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs, 0.072 wt %). The uniform dispersion with LNPs prevented aggregation of metallic silver, resulting in small (diameter 3.3 nm) AgNPs. The nanocomposite film absorbs 89% of radiation across the entire solar spectrum and exhibits a remarkable photothermally triggered antibacterial effect, which is further enhanced by the dark color of lignin. Under simulated solar light illumination, the nanocomposite films demonstrated a significant reduction in viable Escherichia coli count compared to control scenarios. The potential applications of these nanocomposites extend to sunlight-activated antimicrobial films and coatings, addressing the growing demand for sustainable and effective antimicrobial materials.

RESUMO

Counterfeiting is a serious problem in many industries, and the annual profit and tax losses caused by counterfeit products in China have reached over 60 billion yuan. The focus of this paper is to study the effect of blockchain technology in terms of supervising counterfeit products as well as product quality and service decisions under blockchain from a dynamic optimization perspective. We consider the role of blockchain when disclosing product quality information and develop a dynamic optimization model before and after blockchain adoption using differential game theory. Meanwhile, we solve the model using the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equation and backward induction and conduct parametric, comparative, and numerical analyses of the equilibrium solutions. The main findings are as follows: First, we find that in the absence of blockchain, counterfeit products can reduce brand goodwill and decrease the quality and service level of genuine products; however, supervising counterfeit product sales through blockchain can improve this problem under the critical conditions determined in this work. Second, in the direct sales mode, we find that if the unit operating cost and fixed cost of blockchain are small, the brand owner's adoption of blockchain can not only combat the counterfeiter's profit but also increase its own profit. Third, in the wholesale sales mode, we find that the best conditions in which a brand owner can establish blockchain are only related to the related costs of blockchain, while retailers also need to increase the selling price of genuine products when establishing blockchain. Fourth, we find that supply chain performance and blockchain supervisory effects are sensitive to key parameters through numerical analysis in a quantitative form. These findings have important implications for genuine enterprises in terms of determining the conditions for establishing blockchain to combat counterfeiting and for optimizing product quality and service decisions when using blockchain technology.

RESUMO

Simulated reality encompasses virtual, augmented, and mixed realities-each characterized by different degrees of truthfulness in the visual perception: "all false," "coexistence of true and false," and "difficult distinction between true and false," respectively. In all these technologies, however, the temperature rendering of virtual objects is still an unsolved problem. Undoubtedly, the lack of thermal tactile functions substantially reduces the quality of the user's real-experience perception. To address this challenge, we propose theoretically and realize experimentally a technological platform for the in situ simulation of thermal reality. To this purpose, we design a thermal metadevice consisting of a reconfigurable array of radiating units, capable of generating the thermal image of any virtual object, and thus rendering it in situ together with its thermal signature. This is a substantial technological advance, which opens up new possibilities for simulated reality and its applications to human activities.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: This work describes a simplified, 96-well plate method for determining the blood-to-plasma concentration ratio (BP ratio) for small molecules. METHODS: The need for calibration curves was eliminated using a matrix-matching approach in which blood samples were mixed with blank plasma and plasma samples were mixed with blank blood. As a result, both blood- and plasma-origin samples shared an equivalent matrix ahead of bioanalysis. In the in vitro assay, identical sample matrices were achieved by using the same source of blank plasma and blood. RESULTS: In humans, a good correlation (R2 = 0.84) was observed between the data obtained in this matrix-matching method and literature values for 11 commercial compounds possessing a wide range of logD values across multiple chemical classes. In addition, this method showed good agreement with in vitro BP ratios for 10 proprietary compounds determined radiometrically (R2 = 0.72) in human and preclinical species. Finally, the in vitro matrix matching method compared favorably to BP ratios determined ex vivo for 13 proprietary and literature compounds (R2 = 0.87) in rat. CONCLUSION: This method, suitable for in vitro and ex vivo BP ratio determinations, is operationally efficient, robust, and a useful improvement upon previously published methods.

RESUMO

Duct-dependent congenital heart diseases (CHDs) are a serious form of CHD with a low detection rate, especially in underdeveloped countries and areas. Although existing studies have developed models for fetal heart structure identification, there is a lack of comprehensive evaluation of the long axis of the aorta. In this study, a total of 6698 images and 48 videos are collected to develop and test a two-stage deep transfer learning model named DDCHD-DenseNet for screening critical duct-dependent CHDs. The model achieves a sensitivity of 0.973, 0.843, 0.769, and 0.759, and a specificity of 0.985, 0.967, 0.956, and 0.759, respectively, on the four multicenter test sets. It is expected to be employed as a potential automatic screening tool for hierarchical care and computer-aided diagnosis. Our two-stage strategy effectively improves the robustness of the model and can be extended to screen for other fetal heart development defects.

RESUMO

In recent years, mechanoluminescent (ML) materials have shown great potential in stress sensing, mechanical energy collection and conversion, so they have attracted wide attention in the field of stomatology. In the early stage of this study, BaSi2O2N2:Eu2+ ML phosphors were synthesized by two-step high temperature solid state method, and then mixed with Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) in different proportions to obtain BaSi2O2N2:Eu2+/PDMS ML composites with different mass fractions (10%,20%,30%,40%,50%). Then its biosafety was evaluated by Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8), Calcein-AM/PI fluorescence staining, hemolysis, oral mucosal irritation, acute and subacute systemic toxicity tests. The experimental results show that the biosafety of BaSi2O2N2:Eu2+/PDMS ML composite elastomers with different mass fraction is in line with the existing standards, and other related properties can be further studied.

RESUMO

Topography plays a crucial role in determining the structure of alpine forests, as it restricts the availability of nutrients and water necessary for plant growth. Nevertheless, our information on how variations in forest carbon allocation patterns driven by fine-scale topography are influenced by broader-scale environmental contexts is limited. In the northern Tibetan Plateau, we combined field data from 89 forest plots with a high-resolution (1 m2) digital elevation model (DEM) and utilized a linear mixed-effects model to investigate how microtopography (characterized by slope, aspect, and topographic wetness index (TWI)) and broader-scale environmental context (characterized by elevation) and their interactions affect the carbon allocation patterns of alpine forest. Our results revealed that at low and high elevations with pronounced subsurface resource limitations, plants tend to allocate a higher proportion of carbon to the root system and have lower aboveground carbon stocks (ACS). Microtopographic heterogeneity significantly influenced the carbon allocation patterns of forest, with the intensity and direction of these effects varying across the environmental gradient. At low elevations, topographically wetter and northerly microhabitats had higher ACS and lower ratios of below- and aboveground carbon stocks (RBA); however, at high elevations, topographically drier and southerly microhabitats had higher ACS and lower RBA. TWI and aspect had the weakest effect on ACS and RBA in the mid-elevations. The relationship between slope and ACS and RBA was significantly positive but not evidently related to the broader-scale environmental gradient.

RESUMO

Setaria italica (foxtail millet), a founder crop of East Asian agriculture, is a model plant for C4 photosynthesis and developing approaches to adaptive breeding across multiple climates. Here we established the Setaria pan-genome by assembling 110 representative genomes from a worldwide collection. The pan-genome is composed of 73,528 gene families, of which 23.8%, 42.9%, 29.4% and 3.9% are core, soft core, dispensable and private genes, respectively; 202,884 nonredundant structural variants were also detected. The characterization of pan-genomic variants suggests their importance during foxtail millet domestication and improvement, as exemplified by the identification of the yield gene SiGW3, where a 366-bp presence/absence promoter variant accompanies gene expression variation. We developed a graph-based genome and performed large-scale genetic studies for 68 traits across 13 environments, identifying potential genes for millet improvement at different geographic sites. These can be used in marker-assisted breeding, genomic selection and genome editing to accelerate crop improvement under different climatic conditions.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Ocedurenone (KBP-5074) is a novel nonsteroidal mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist that has demonstrated safety and efficacy in clinical trials in patients with uncontrolled hypertension and stage 3b/4 chronic kidney disease. This study evaluated the involvement of cytochrome P450 (CYP) isozymes and drug transporters in the biotransformation of ocedurenone, and whether ocedurenone inhibited or induced CYP enzymes and transporters. Clinical pharmacokinetic drug-drug interaction (DDI) of ocedurenone with CYP3A inhibitor and inducer were investigated in healthy volunteers. METHODS: In vitro tests were conducted to determine which CYP enzymes were involved in ocedurenone's metabolism and whether ocedurenone inhibited or induced these CYP enzymes; ocedurenone substrate characteristics for efflux and uptake transporters and its inhibitory potential on major drug transporters were also assessed. A clinical DDI study was conducted in healthy volunteers to evaluate the effects of a strong CYP3A inhibitor (itraconazole) and inducer (rifampin) on ocedurenone's pharmacokinetics. RESULTS: The in vitro study showed that ocedurenone was primarily metabolized by CYP3A4 and that it did not inhibit CYP enzymes. Ocedurenone appeared to be a substrate of BCRP and P-gp efflux transporters and inhibited BCRP, BSEP, MDR1, MATE1 and 2-K, OATP1B1/3, and OCT1. The clinical DDI study showed that itraconazole reduced ocedurenone's oral clearance by 51% and increased area under the plasma concentration-time curve extrapolated to infinity (AUC0-inf) by 104%, while rifampin increased its oral clearance by 6.4-fold and decreased plasma AUC0-inf by 84%. CONCLUSION: Ocedurenone was shown to be a CYP3A substrate, with no inhibition potential on major drug metabolizing CYP enzymes and transporters at clinical efficacious doses. Ocedurenone did not induce CYP1A2 and 3A4 activity in cultured human primary hepatocytes. Clinical DDI study indicated ocedurenone was well tolerated when administered as a single 0.5-mg dose both alone and with itraconazole or rifampin, and while itraconazole had a weak effect on ocedurenone's pharmacokinetics, rifampin had a significant effect reducing systemic exposures.

RESUMO

Thermal chirality, generically referring to the handedness of heat flux, provides a significant possibility for modern heat control. It may be realized with the thermal Hall effect yet at the high cost of strong magnetic fields and extremely low temperatures. Here, we reveal magnet-free and room-temperature Hall-like heat transfer in an active thermal lattice composed of a stationary solid matrix and rotating solid particles. Rotation breaks the Onsager reciprocity relation and generates giant thermal chirality about two orders of magnitude larger than ever reported at the optimal rotation velocity. We further achieve anisotropic thermal chirality by breaking the rotation invariance of the active lattice, bringing effective thermal conductivity to a region unreachable by the thermal Hall effect. These results could enlighten topological and non-Hermitian heat transfer and efficient heat utilization in ways distinct from phonons.

RESUMO

Introduction: Hyperlipidemia refers to a group of lipid metabolism disorders characterized by increased levels of total cholesterol, triglyceride, and/or low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and/or decreased levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol. This study aims to investigate the effects of Lactobacillus on lipid metabolism and hepatic steatosis in male mice fed with a high-fat diet by measuring blood lipid, hepatic function and hepatocyte morphology. Material and methods: Eighty male Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) mice were fed with a high-fat diet for 6 weeks to establish hyperlipidemic models. Then, mice were treated with a high or low concentration of Lactobacillus of human source, mouse source, or plant source, respectively. Results: After 3 weeks of therapy, except for the human Lactobacillus treatment group, the blood cholesterol, triglyceride and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol in mice treated with Lactobacillus of mouse and plant source were lower than those in the hyperlipidemic model group. After 4 weeks of treatment, the levels of blood biochemical indexes in mice in all treatment groups were significantly different, when compared to those in the hyperlipidemic model group. Conclusions: Lactobacillus may regulate blood lipid in mice fed with a high-fat diet. Lactobacillus can improve the high cholesterol, high blood lipid, and injury of hepatic function, and prevent further development of atherosclerosis caused by a high-fat diet to some extent. Correct dietary structure is the basis for the treatment of dietary hyperlipidemia and its complications.
